The Day After the Summit

Greetings and, wow, what an amazing day we had at the Massachusetts Civic Summit in Worcester (November 16, 2007). Well over 600 people - from nonprofits, corporations, foundations, government departments and community groups turned out – for a day packed with collegiality, ideas and plenty of inspiration.

The Volunteer Track attracted over 150 participants (!!!) from somewhere in the neighborhood of 100 organizations in Massachusetts. The program was developed by members of the following organizations: AARP, Boston Cares, Boston Partners in Education, Building Impact, City of Boston, Common Impact, Community Builders, Generations INC., Mass. Mentors Network, Prison Book Project, Strong Women/Strong Girls, The Volunteer Family and United Way of Mass. Bay & Merrimack Valley. Yay, team! As part of the post-Summit process, notes from both the morning and afternoon session will be organized, and posted to this website. So, stay tuned!

At the end of the afternoon session, a show of hands confirmed what anyone in attendance might have guessed … across the board interest in continuing to work together on issues related to building up the volunteer sector. As a starting place, let’s encourage those we know who care about the state of volunteering in our State to register with www.masscivicaction.org, so we can have a common “go to” place to swap ideas, make plans and build on the energy generated at the Summit.

Web resources comes and go … let’s make sure this one stands the test of time!

Cheers! PK
