I have volunteered, championed volunteerism, mobilized volunteers for service partners as well as "in-house", trained community volunteers and agency staff members in volunteer system design and management since 1975.   My current focus is on developing valid, reliable data-sources that document the effectiveness of volunteer operating systems and individual volunteers.  I feel like the field has "only just begun" - and look forward to meeting, blogging, and any other way we can exchange the enormous number of Best Practices across the Commonwealth!
